While the details of the plan are many, the goal is simply one – to create a shared map toward excellence that guides and synchronizes the efforts of all.
For more than eighty years, from yesterday’s Chattanooga Bible Institute through today’s Richmont Graduate University, our institution has been an instrument for good. Since our inception in 1933, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to provide the highest quality, specialized, “Christ-centered” graduate education available. We believe it is a sacred trust and one we are honored to fulfill.
Today, Richmont stands at a crossroads, with a choice on which road to follow. Should we continue on our current path – to quietly teach, heal, and transform? Or should we re-energize ourselves and our mission by boldly charting new horizons to further His will? As a community, we prayed on this. We listened. As Matthew 5:16 instructs us, “In the same way, your light must shine before men so that they may see goodness in your acts and give praise to your heavenly Father.” So we discerned it necessary to share the impact of our work and more importantly challenge ourselves to become better and promote a culture of growth.
All of this led us to a robust strategic planning process, one of a magnitude not seen before at our University. The extraordinary results of that process unfold in the pages to follow. Aptly, the plan has been titled “In Pursuit of Excellence – 2021”. Over the next three years, 2019-2021, Richmont seeks to evolve from a best-kept local secret into an internationally-renowned, “destination” University. It will achieve this by becoming a recognized thought leader in its chosen fields, through an expanding and diversifying community, securing new financial resources, more partnerships with other soul-care organizations, and incentivizing academic and operational innovation.
Clearly, we have a considerable number of aspirations for our University across a range of focus areas. However, we are undeterred by the ambition of this Plan. Here is why. While the details of the plan are many, the goal is simply one – to create a shared map toward excellence that guides and synchronizes the efforts of all. Simply put, that is the essence of our strategic plan: In Pursuit of Excellence – 2021.
Blessings and best wishes,

Foundational to every strategic aspiration at Richmont is our mission to engage the tasks of education, scholarship, and community service in a manner infused with Christian faith and spirituality. The purpose of this mission is to advance the work of healing, restoration, and transformation at all levels of human life and relating. Living a Christian faith that restores, reconciles, and heals is the sacred quest of our University. Our individual and collective experiences of Christ’s love compel us and unite us to express our faith through integrative education, innovative scholarship, cutting-edge mental health services, and transformational ministry initiatives.
Richmont’s distinguishing mark is the way in which we integrate Christian faith and spirituality throughout all of our academic and service endeavors. Richmont’s Christian identity, situated in the Evangelical tradition, holds high regard for the inspiration and authority of Scripture. Simultaneously, it affirms that truths about God, humanity, and our physical universe are discernible through the natural and social sciences. Beyond mere eclecticism or simply pursuing education from a Christian worldview, Richmont intentionally engages in faith-grounded and scientifically sound scholarship and service as our primary means of encountering the Triune God—and demonstrating Him to the world. Christian integration is exploring and then seeing together the truth to which faith and science both attest, resulting in a fuller, richer, and much more nuanced vision of reality.
Such an approach shapes the way we see God, each other, and the world. It informs the paths we select and the ways in which we walk them out in our world. Integrating the spirituality of love from our Christian faith with scientifically informed understandings of life is not merely a theoretical or academic exercise. Integration at Richmont brings together the most personal of human experiences and unifies us with others in a way that tangibly shapes who we are, what we do, and the very essence of how we do it. This unique embodiment of Christian integration, which undergirds the mission and vision of Richmont, is the heartbeat of all we do and aspire to as a university community.
